THAI CAVE RESCUE: REAL TIME—IN THE MOVIES

“They’ll be making movies about this . . . .”

It’s 2018, and the summer’s monsoon rains arrive early to conspire and create a drama we cannot forget—captured this month in a movie by Director Ron Howard and called “Thirteen Lives,” streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.

Howard’s movie follows two earlier movie and documentary handlings: “Cave Rescue” is available on demand this month. And “The Rescue” is currently streaming on Disney+.

We all remember this drama: 12 young soccer players and their coach spending 18 days trapped inside a dark and flooded cave called Tham Luang, in the northern part of Thailand. Thousands of volunteers descended from around the world to help—proving, for once, we all can actually work together when we need to work together.

As a PADI-trained Master Scuba Diver, I remember taking breaths like I imagined the heroic rescuers had to take breaths . . . . eventually bringing all—every single one—of the kids and their coach out and into the safety of TV lights, cheers, and worldwide relief.

Just over four years ago, in the early morning hours of July 9, 2018, here’s what I said on Fox & Friends as this all evolved live and in front of our televisions . . .

What a lesson in these movies and documentaries for the entire world to take to heart—the power of unity, the power of purpose, and the power of working together when we must.
